Frankenmuth Iron Pour, Frankenmuth, MI

Ironhead Sculptural Services, LLC is excited to help bring Hot Iron to Frankenmuth, Michigan. It is our first event in the state and we are looking forward to reconnecting with colleagues, entertaining the public and helping patrons create their own art.

From the Facebook Event Page: The basic premise of an iron pour as it pertains to our event, is the recycling of cast iron. In this process, scrap cast iron is repurposed by first being broken into small fragments and heated until molten. The molten metal is then poured into a hardened sand mold which has been custom-carved by an iron pour participant. Once the metal has safely cooled, the resultant artwork can then be removed; a process not unlike soap or candy making.
The pour will occur in the evening of Friday the 19th and Saturday the 20th. The event is free for the public to come and watch. It’s a spectacular event to witness as the furnace is fired up and the molten metal is poured into the many molds created by community participants and local artists. On Friday and Saturday morning, scratch tile workshops will be held for participants who have registered for the event. They will learn how to create custom molds for the casting process. A special workshop will also be available on Saturday, October 13 at Hargash Artist Studio for those who desire to spend more time working on their piece. Suggested uses for your custom-made cast iron piece of art are stepping stones, a name or address plaque, or just a fun item for display. The cost to design your own mold is $65.
